Trust & Safety
Ilmgage is built for classrooms: teachers create the account, students join anonymously with a class code and a first name. This page explains, in plain terms, what data moves through the product and how we handle it — written for the teachers, administrators, and IT reviewers who need to vet us before classroom use.
Data we collect
Teachers: name, email address, and account credentials. If you sign in with Google, we receive basic profile information to identify your account — we do not access your Gmail, Drive, or Classroom data unless you explicitly connect that integration.
Students: students do not create accounts. To join a class, a student enters the class code shown by their teacher and types a first name — that name, plus the results and responses from activities the teacher assigns, is what we store as roster data. A small number of standalone activity links (accessed outside the normal class-join flow) ask for a school email instead of a name, used only to identify the student's progress for that activity — it is not used to create an account, and we do not use it to contact students.
We do not require student date of birth, home address, phone number, or any other personal information to use Ilmgage.
FERPA
Ilmgage is designed to support FERPA compliance. The school and its teachers own the education records created in Ilmgage — we act as a school official with a legitimate educational interest, processing data solely to provide the service the school has directed us to provide (running classes, grading activities, reporting progress).
We do not use student education records for any purpose beyond operating the service, and we do not sell student data or use it for advertising. Schools and teachers can request deletion of student records at any time by contacting us at the address below.
COPPA
Ilmgage uses a teacher-mediated model for students of any age, including those under 13. Students never create their own account, never provide personal contact information to sign up, and never see advertising. The only information a student provides directly is a first name (or, for a small number of standalone activity links, a school email used solely as an activity identifier) — both entered at the direction of, and under the supervision of, their teacher.
Consent for student use flows through the school: schools and teachers are responsible for authorizing Ilmgage's use in the classroom under COPPA's school-consent model, consistent with guidance from the FTC. We do not independently market to or collect information from children outside of that teacher-directed context.
AI & student data
When a teacher generates a quiz, vocabulary set, or guided notes with AI, generation is based on the source material the teacher provides (text, topics, or uploaded content) — not on other schools' data.
Student responses and activity results are used only to grade activities and show progress to the teacher. We do not use student responses to train AI models, and we do not share student data with our AI provider for any purpose beyond generating the specific content the teacher requested.
Subprocessors
We rely on the following subprocessors to operate Ilmgage. Each is contractually limited to the purpose listed here.
| Subprocessor | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Supabase | Database and authentication |
| Stripe | Payment processing |
| Anthropic | AI content generation |
| Vercel | Application hosting |
| Google Classroom integration (optional, teacher-enabled) |
Security practices
Data is encrypted in transit between your browser and our servers. Access to production data is role-based and limited to the systems and staff who need it to operate the service, following the principle of least privilege. We do not sell or share personal information for advertising.
